Iqbal...

Last night watched this incredible movie 'Iqbal'. Its about a deaf and dumb village boy who realizes his dream of being a fast bowler in the Indian team. Movie is brilliantly directed and sharply enacted by all the characters. Shreyas who played the deaf n dumb bowler has done a fascinating job. His body language, his bowling action and his stellar performance are superb. I can't imagine someone else playing that role. His voice on screen is his little sis played by Shweta. Shweta did an equally good job again. She made her debut in Makdi and since then critics have been making revs about her talent. It will be too obvious to laud Naseer and Girish Karnad. But the real credit should be given to Nagesh Kukoonoor. This guy makes brilliant movies based on simple stories. If Teen Deewarein marked the arrival of an offbeat director, Iqbal proves his versatility. It hurts when I find a herd of directors only making movies like Murder, Kalyug, Sheesha and Chocolate.
But Kukoonoor, Bhansali and Rakeysh Mehra are there who do justice to the Indian audience. Last two Hindi movies I watched have been above my expectations. No more commercial crap made by Karan Johar or no more soft porn by Pooja Bhat.
